Episode 2 of Season 2 is here, and this week I'm joined by Exercise Physiologist and Health Coach, Sarah Liz King.
Sarah's mission is to reconnect women with their bodies and inner-selves through intuitive eating, mindful movement and compassion-focussed therapies. Her areas of expertise include eating disorders, exercise addiction and hormonal conditions such as PCOS and Hypothalamic Amenorrhea.
In this conversation, we discuss the work Sarah does around helping women regain their periods after losing them (HA) and the reality of how common it is for women to lose their periods through diet and lifestyle challenges.
We also explored the importance of men overcoming the discomfort of the period conversation, and the benefits to understanding and supporting their partners during their menstrual cycle (essentially, it will improve your emotional and physical connection with your partner 10x fold, chaps - it really is time we get over this stuff, I'm afraid).
A huge thank you to Sarah for coming on - you can find her on IG @sarahlizking

Season 2 of The Honest Bloke Podcast is here!
Kicking off season 2, I am delighted to be joined by Josh Connolly - a Resilience Coach and Certified Breathwork Coach.
As one of the UK’s most influential mental health advocates he regularly speaks on BBC, ITV & Channel 5 news. Josh has also spoken in the House of Commons, contributed to mental health policy and even advised the scriptwriting team on Hollyoaks. He has run resilience workshops for village schools and global brands alike. Additionally, he is an ambassador for Nacoa – a national charity supporting people affected by a parent’s drinking.
In this conversation, Josh and I speak about his experiences growing up suppressing emotions, and how that led to early alcohol and drug problems.
Josh shares his experiences around why it’s important for us to learn how to feel and express the emotions we might usually describe as negative in a healthy way.
We also discussed the importance of holding space for others, and why it’s such a difficult thing to do, particularly as men.
A big thank you to Josh for joining me for the first episode of the new season.

For this week's episode, James is joined by ex-professional gymnast, online fitness coach and psychology student Shona Vertue.
Continuing the conversation around male violence towards women, Shona expands on her her experiences of unpacking her own internalised misogyny and sub-conscious victim-blaming towards women, and the challenges that present themselves when exploring how women can also perpetuate the oppression of other women.
Amongst some of the heavier topics, there are also some lighter conversations - how certain accents are used in British advertising, awkward dating stories and whether David Beckham is as wonderful as all men (James) hope(s) he is are all discussed.
A huge thank you to Shona for coming on to podcast.

In this week's episode, James is joined by Kerry Stott - a mental health nurse, author, men's mental health advocate and feminist.
Kerry brings her near 20 years of experience of working with mental health patients to shed some light on the challenges that many men are currently facing in listening to the conversations around male violence towards women.
Speaking of the need to use both compassion and accountability, Kerry shares her insights into how toxic shame within men stifles their ability to empathise with the suffering women have experienced, and how this prevents those same men from doing their own healing.
She also discusses how the topic of consent goes far beyond that of sexual consent in the bedroom, and how some new, compassionate focused therapy treatments may hold the key for supporting almost any mental health conditions.
A very big thank you to Kerry for coming on the podcast - we can't wait to have you on again soon.

TW: Conversations around sexual abuse, harassment and rape.
In episode 8, Aileen Quinn (aka @tindertranslators on Instagram) joins James as the first of many female guests over the coming weeks.
Aileen shares her perspectives on the current conversations around male violence towards women, in light of the murder of Sarah Everard by a male MET police officer in London, offering explanation into why men are struggling to listen to the reality of women's experiences of violence, harassment and assault at the hands of men.
She also shares some incredible insight into the reality of abuse, and the likelihood of it happening within our families/partnerships/homes compared to 'on the street', as well as some horrifying/hilarious stories from her time running the Tinder Translators page (warning ⚠️ some of this part of the conversation is not for the weak-stomached).
A huge thank you to Aileen for this conversation. For book links mentioned by Aileen, you can find them below:

TW: Discussions of sexual assault occur in this conversation.
This episode of the podcast comes at an extremely sensitive time, after the tragic murder of Sarah Everard in London.
Over the past week, women have been sharing their stories of feeling unsafe, threatened or at risk as a result of the presence and behaviour of men. As a response, the hashtag #NotAllMen has surfaced on various social media platforms, to represent the stance of men feeling they are unfairly being grouped with murderers and rapists.
The collective suffering of women is a deep, traumatic wound that, right now, is open and on display for the world to see. In this conversation, Ben Bidwell and I try to answer the question "How can men help women feel safe?"
As mentioned in the introduction to this episode, this is two men trying their best to understand a situation that we are undeniably ignorant to. If there is anything that is mentioned in this conversation that is incorrect or ignorant, please do let us know.
