Disappointing Crossover
Your Apr 27 crossover show was such a letdown. It was beneath the your dignity and that of your educated listeners to waste 1+hr with two ignorant and stupid hillbillies. Don’t do it again.

Nothing major just want to correct a mistake
The region listed for Yi people are southwest, not southeast.

Too credulous
Basically, he reads textbooks for you. It’s not at the same level as history of Roma or history of Byzantium, ngl. Barely quoted any historians.

Popcorn time! 🍿
This was such a wonderful podcast! Unlike some where it’s kind of a drab and struggle to endure. The narrator definitely makes it very enjoyable to follow along and adds a little bit of spice to the details. Highly entertaining and highly enjoyable. Get your popcorn ready this podcast is absolutely informative and entertaining. Great job and thank you so much. Can’t wait to listen to more.🤩👏

Denial of historical truth
I was initially excited to hear his take on Chinese history. However, within the first 11 minutes, the narrator referred to the time before Christ(BC) as before common era (BCE). The birth of Christ is a major historical fact upon which all human history is measured, regardless of who you believe Christ is. How can you trust someone’s historical analysis when they do not acknowledge such major historical facts?

Fantabulously spectacular
As someone with a proper emotional obsession with Chinese history, I cherish this podcast and jump up and down every time a new episode is released. Truly *massive* amount of content, yet very listenable. Overall fantastic. P.S. I feel like none of the other history podcasts out there actually know how to design their cover art well. Thanks, Chris.

Be surprised with tampon and gynecological surprise advertising content mid sentence in presentation. Packed in arbitrarily throughout the story of China..Learn more about women’s personal hygiene than any history

A remarkable survey
Update: perfection achieved. The host is excellent presenting this incredibly detailed, well-organized history of China. Now it runs without issue and I have listened to every episode through the T’ang. Remarkable, utterly remarkable. Original: I studied Chinese history and welcomed this thoughtful podcast; however, the speaker's long pauses constantly cause the next episode to load/play in the midst of a sentence in the one I am listening. He should read with fewer pauses or edit closed these gaps after recording so iTunes doesn't read them as the episode's end. In 15:54 I had to skip back to continue listening dozens of time. Finally gave up.

A real gem
Do not miss this free college education. Having grown up in China, I find The History of China very well produced. The subject is extremely difficult given the vast amount of materials and conflicting accounts. But Chris Stewart made a very streamlined presentation, yet the depths of treatment is second to none. Many of the details he covered are hard to come by in common history lessons taught in China, definitely not from any high school. The podcast also presents a perspective of world history, which makes some events much easier to grasp. Just the courage to make decisions on what to tell and what to skip is admirable.

So much fun information & content
This was another show I came across from a feed swap with history daily. I’m only a couple episodes in but I like it so far. The amount of episodes that have been put out is staggering lol. For those interested in Chinese history, you could probably find everything you’d ever want to know where lol. Just might take a while to sift through

First podcast I play
In the sea of history podcasts, a new episode of The History of China is the one I look for first. I like that it follows the more difficult sequential way of telling history. This way you see how each era evolved from the previous one. I feel this promotes understanding of sometimes difficult and violent periods. The style is clear and straightforward with occasional interesting asides. Sometimes contemporary events call for a special podcast or remembrance I find brave and most welcome. Thank you for reading.

Commercials
You have got a great show. But I cannot listen anymore. The commercials are so loud!!! They are very disturbing. I don’t mind ads, and I get it, it’s a revenue stream. But, you’ve got to find a way to equalize the volume of your podcast and the commercials during your podcasts.

Informative podcast
A great show that tells the history of China from its mythical past through the dynasties that is well researched and detailed about its portrait of the history of the Middle kingdom.

A well-researched and entertaining show with some significant technical issues
The host’s command of and passion for the subject matter are beyond reproach. His narrative is at once meticulously detailed and entertaining, which is no small feat with a topic of such massive scope. This makes it that much more unfortunate that the show often sounds like it’s coming through a speaker at the McDonald’s drive-through. I’m not sure whether he is unaware of this, doesn’t bother to check his levels before he records, or perhaps, does not have access to a high-quality microphone? (Though I have heard him say on several occasions that he has purchased a new one….) whatever the case, please Chris! Get those levels down into the green! We want to hear you better! Jiayou!

Costume Drama & Political Economics
Offers a chronological history of the Middle Kingdom from the first faint human traces to the sprawling and operatic worlds of the dynasties with an easy, yet detailed, narrative that makes traveling through thousands of years a breeze, even when it hits complex situations like the Warring States period. The host does an excellent job of explaining the limits of what's known through archaeology and historical research and unpacking some of the common tropes of history.

Good but opinionated
Overall a good podcast that focuses on political and military history. Sometimes it glosses over some other interesting aspects of Chinese history, ie culture, language, etc. Episode #194 is contains opinions presented as facts (why are we talking about feminist issues? Is this not history? We have enough politically correct versions of history to contend with). Unfortunately history is often looked through a politically correct “modern”microscope, or it is the opinion of later historians that are presented as fact. And this podcast keeps that tradition going. Although, to be fair, it’s nearly impossible to do otherwise especially with focusing on Chinese political and military history. But overall a good podcast that I usually enjoy listening to, with the exception of episode 194. :)

Best Chinese History Podcast
This podcast addresses Chinese history the best. It follows chronological order, and the host does his best to keep the messy and non-Latin name filled history understandable for English speakers, though that is obviously quite hard. This is definitely a podcast that needs accompanying maps, but it does the best I think a podcast formatted history could possibly do. To help other English speakers: Spelling=Sound Q=Ch X=Sh Zh=J Just the ones I’ve found most helpful in understanding place names.

A very informative podcast about China with great host
Nice range of topics and time periods. Unlike a lot of history podcasts, this one doesn’t just focus on the ones with the most name recognition like the Ming, but topics like detailed histories a single city or region, special topics like a specific warlord, poetry or a fantastic series on tea. Worth listening to even if you’re not super interested in China because the stories are told in such an engaging manner.

Awesome Pod!
Thank u so much! I love history but only knew the clique basics about China like emperors, Great Wall, guys with no dongs working in the palace, Ect. I had no idea how awesome China’s history was until I started your pod. The history & your story telling has been so entertaining I can’t say thank u enough.

In My Top 5 Podcasts.
Hard to keep the foreign names straight, but working on it. Was listening to CHP, but this one is better to me because it follows a linear timeline from beginning forward. Love the little jokes peppered throughout the narrative.

Wonderful
Thank you so much for telling China’s story to an English audience. You’ve provided me with many hours of entertainment and education.

Fact and fiction are equal
I majored in Chinese language in college and I was hoping to take a closer look at the history as I did with Mike Duncan and the history of Rome. However, he just presents translated texts with no distinguishing what is myth from what is verified history. I’m hoping someone comes along who can do better.

A great podcast with clear passion for the subject
As an English speaker studying in Taiwan, It has been incredible resource. Until I can read the sources myself (shout out to traditional Chinese characters) this is my portal to the past. Thanks Chris for giving non-Chinese speakers a peek behind the silk curtain! Also thank for for your recap episodes after each period. Those darn Wu’s are numerous

It’s finally time for MONGOLS!!!
Despite the daunting immensity I’ve Chinese history this podcast weaves a comprehensible and entertaining tapestry. Thorough and often hilarious!! He really puts in the work doing his research. And the titles are AWESOME!!! “...and here Han is stuck in the middle with Gaozu!!” Still dying!

Eh
This podcast is a bit dry. I use this to augment my studies as a college student. But I typically find myself using other Chinese history podcasts.

China teaches indoctrination
I hate to correct the podcaster, but history is not a subject in Chinese schools. And if China takes over, history will be banned, erased, and hidden.

Just the right amount of detail
As a newcomer to Chinese history, Chris Stewart’s podcasts have the right amount of detail. His sense of humor helps to make the information interesting. He includes the important figures in the pod casts, but he could include more of their names in the synopsis of each pod cast. The History of China’s and Laszlo Montgomery’s China History podcasts are a nice pairing.

So far so good
Updated: I really enjoy the narrative and enthusiasm. As an avid history buff, I’m always on the lookout for a great podcast. Can definitely recommend! Podcaster speaks very quickly. I’ve discovered .8 speed on the “other” platform works. It’s a tad slow at .8 but much better than 1x. To podcaster: I kindly request that you slow down when speaking. It is hard to absorb what is being said. Thank you.

The Chinese is spoken as Chinese. I forgive much for that!
(May change to 5 stars) I’m at the Zhou Jin conflict so super early on. And yes - growing pains, but mainly I am here for this because GROWTH is happening. The narrative is there and learning about how to podcast is happening. But - my son is taking Chinese. I speak 1 language well, and 2 others badly. But I have an ear for languages so cannot thank you enough for taking this on - exposing English speakers to tones and explaining the “homophon-erific” Chinese language. Just hearing all these places, names, concepts done well and translations done with affection makes my heart so happy. I look forward to your later episodes (ahhhh am I sure I want to get to 2020?)

Just what I was looking for!
I really needed to listen to a new show as I stayed up late some nights with a newborn. This podcast was a great companion on those long nights. Of course, Crhis does a great job with his research and knowledge of Chinese History, a subject that is far less covered than other parts of the world (Europe and North America).

Well Researched
Most detailed English podcast about Chinese political history. The host takes time to delivery quality information that few know about. My favorite segment is about the Song Dynasty. It definitely changed my original perception of that dynasty.
