The people in Malachi's time, a time before the coming of the Messiah, were unhappy because God was not answering their prayers. In Malachi 2:13-16 God tells them why He could not answer them. It is because they were not honoring their sacred vows in their marriages. To God, marriage is not a casual thing. It is a sacred union, something to be taken extremely seriously, cherished, and worked on daily.
