Episode Outline

  • What is India's position on the Ukraine War, including on Russia particularly?
  • Why has it remained so neutral and unwilling to take a clear stance?
  • How does India see its relations with China, Russia, or the USA?
  • What is the role and relevance of Modi as a leader?

Episode 5 sees these questions and more tackled as your host, Pyotr interviews Professor Daniel Markey on India and covers the details of the new report, Enhancing Strategic Stability in Southern Asia. Professor Markey is a senior advisor on South Asia at the United States Institute of Peace and a senior fellow at the Johns Hopkins University’s School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) Foreign Policy Institute. He also has two decades of academic, think tank, and government experience focused on international relations and U.S. policy in Asia.

The episode is split into two segments with the first 45 mins seeing Pyotr & Professor Markey discuss the questions above, including India's diplomatic posturing in the UN. The second 35 mins involve a live audience Q/A in the Sitrep Room on Clubhouse. Topics include India's cybersecurity interests and the disconnect between the Indian people and the government over its response to the Ukraine War.
