#50: Emotional Flooding and Planning Your Aftercare (SEASON 3 FINALE)
Emotional flooding is a common experience for HSPs and neurodivergents. As it sounds, we can become flooded with challenging feelings and emotions which trigger immense discomfort. This can occur not only in “expected” stressful situations, but also “everyday” situations which may not at all feel uncomfortable for the non-HSP.In this episode, I speak about:What emotional flooding is, how it occurs and how to identify itThe impacts of emotional suppressionSeeking psychological safety for healthy emotional expressionHow to plan for aftercare of emotional floodingThe Gentle Living 2023 mini-retreat is coming soon!! #49: The Productivity Myth, Self-Worth and Coping with Exhaustion
In today's episode, I speak to "the productivity myth" and how deeply we can attach our self-worth to our ability to produce and create. Not only is this unhelpful (and a myth!!) but it may be part of the reason why you experience ongoing, recurring or frequent exhaustion. I get a little vulnerable and share my challenge with productivity, self-worth and chronic fatigue along with an incredibly simple yet effective strategy to better manage by energy through a system called "energy pacing." If you would like to practice this strategy yourself, download my FREE worksheets HERE to get you started. Exciting news... I have something really fun coming up this year that I've never done before (crafted especially for the HSP), and would love to invite you to be part of it! #45: Healing Survival Mode and Restoring a Sense of Safety with Dvonne Loring
Let's talk survival mode, the impact it has on our daily lives and how we can restore a sense of safety through nurturing the nervous system (my favourite topic)! Many HSPs often feel as though they are chronically and/or easily exhausted; in this guest episode with holistic counsellor and somatic coach Dvonne Loring, she explains how this often partly arises from being in a chronic state of survival mode. Dvonne shares her wisdom around:What is “survival mode” including signs we may be in the midst of it, and how it affect our day to day lives? The types of people more likely to find themselves "stuck" in survival mode and how it shows up through behaviours such as perfectionism and people-pleasingExamples of what lack of safety might mean and how we can restore a sense of safetyKey practices to support the healing journeyDvonne's unique framework to support women to embody their authenticityTo find out more about Dvonne and her offerings:www.dvonneloring.comInstagram - @[email protected] your FREE Self-Soothing for the HSP Guide - explore how self-soothing practices can calm your nervous system and reduce anxiety HEREGentle Living WebsiteEmail me at: [email protected] credit: Ikson - Coastline

#44: Cultivating Mindfulness and Connecting with Nature in the City (with Lucy Anna Scott)
Are you a city dweller that has a dream of packing up and leaving it all in search of a slower pace of living in the country? I certainly felt this way living in Melbourne; life had become a bit too rushed, busy and overwhelming (which was not great for my high sensitivity)! During this time, I came across the work of non-fiction creative writer Lucy Anna Scott who beautifully reframed the joy of urban living in her book Mindful Thoughts for City Dwellers, and how we in fact can cultivate more mindfulness and connect with nature in the city.Lucy’s writing has been featured in BBC, The Times, The Guardian, The Mail on Sunday, Metro and The National, and she also co-created Lost in London, an indie magazine which explores and celebrates nature in the city. In this episode, Lucy speaks about:What it means to be an HSP in the cityThe inspiration behind Mindful Thoughts for City DwellersWhy we often romanticise the idea of escaping the city for country livingWays we can cultivate greater mindfulness and connect with nature in the cityHow we can enhance our sense of community and belonging in the cityTo find out more about Lucy and her work:http://www.lucyannascott.com/To check out Lucy’s book, Mindful Thoughts for City Dwellers:HEREReceive your FREE Self-Soothing for the HSP Guide - explore how self-soothing practices can calm your nervous system and reduce anxiety HEREGentle Living WebsiteEmail me at: [email protected] credit: Ikson - Coastline

#43: A Different Kind of Gap Year - a Clinical Psychologist's Journey from Burnout to Healing with Shannon Swales
In this episode, I sat with Brisbane-based clinical psychologist Shannon Swales to have a deep conversation about her breakdown as a result of burnout, compassion fatigue and vicarious trauma, which then led to taking a year off (aka "gap year") to focus on her recovery and healing. Through this journey, she found that blogging, podcasting and being open in sharing her experience to be a therapeutic process. Shannon describes herself as "a person who never knew what she wanted in a career and only started studying psychology in her early 20s because she wanted to understand why people behaved the way they do; little did she know that it would send her on her pathway to discover herself..."To find out more about Shannon and her work:Website:www.adifferentkindofgapyear.comEmail:[email protected] In:https://www.linkedin.com/in/shannon-swales-577a2145/Instagram:https://www.instagram.com/burnoutadifferentkindofgapyear/Facebook:https://www.facebook.com/burnoutadifferentkindofgapyear/Resources mentioned: Maslach Burnout Inventory Reminder: all information provided and discussed within this podcast are purely for informational purposes only and are never intended to replace the health care advice of your primary health care provider.
