In this Deepcast episode, Gary Zukav takes on one of humanity's oldest fears: the idea that evil is a force loose in the world, something separate from us that can attack, tempt, or possess us. He traces this belief back through Christianity and Buddhism, both built on the story of a young man (Jesus, Siddhartha) who faced temptation on his path to a higher state of being. In the old consciousness, that temptation gets treated as an outside enemy, an independently existing evil that only an institution like the church can help you defeat. Gary argues this framing has always been a trap, one that keeps people dependent and afraid instead of powerful. The deeper problem, as Gary lays it out, is that treating evil as a real, external thing gives us no way to actually deal with it. You cannot punish an illusion into submission. You cannot lock up something that was never really there. As long as evil is imagined as some independent force, every attempt to fight it, through shame, punishment, or even righteous outrage, just adds more darkness to the pile. His answer is simple: evil is not a thing at all. It is the absence of light, and the only cure for an absence is a presence. Once you understand that, the whole equation changes. What You’ll Discover in This Episode((((((Embrace the Soul Step ChallengeThis week, notice every time you label something, a person, an event, a part of yourself, as evil or bad. Pause before reacting and ask: is this really an external force, or is it an absence of light I have the power to fill? What frightened part of my personality might be showing itself here? Keep a soul notebook, and at the end of the week, look back at what you wrote to see where you slipped into judgment versus where you chose to bring light instead.Let's ConnectGary Zukav | WebsiteGary Zukav | InstagramGary Zukav | FacebookGary Zukav | BooksGary Zukav | YouTubeGary Zukav | X
