Colin Slight is an MD of a full-service agency serving financial markets who views himself as a business developer first. On this episode of the Fintech Files, Colin sits down to discuss how to bring new technologies to market and how patience and process are critical even for the most groundbreaking firms. He also shares his thoughts on what the crisis will (or won’t) change in terms of face to face communication.
Key takeaways- Persistent communication: you need to communicate continuously, across different media and become part of a community
- Face to face: although we are unable to at the moment due to the confinement, it will remain critical for B2B business development
- Patience and process are always going to be needed to introduce an innovative service or product to market
The biggest challenge is unrealistic expectations of how quickly things can be made, particularly from a technological perspective.
Great technology doesn't make you a winner immediately. You know, when you first enter a market, you've got to build trust, you've got relationships, you've got what we call communities of interest in people who are interested in what you do and how you do it. That doesn't happen quickly.
Never ever try and sell marketing to anybody.
You've got to be continually communicating with the market and reminding people that you exist in a variety of different ways, whether it's putting out a press release, making a company communication, blogging, responding to somebody else's comments, attending an event, going to a show.
