When I go to the grocery store at 9 or 10 o-clock at night, I can’t help but wonder what happens to all this food they don’t sell! I mean, it’s crazy that grocery stores still have so produce and other food for sale only a couple hours before closing. Well, as many of you know, much of that food is purchased by other companies and sold at a reduced price at stores such as Grocery Outlet. 

Today’s guest, Kody Thurston, has created a successful career working for companies that act as the middle man between big retail stores and stores like Grocery Outlet. This industry is called Secondary Market of Consumer Packaged Goods. He has such an interesting story to tell about how he got into this industry and how this niche was created. He spent 15 years working for Grocery Outlet, where he was Senior Vice President of purchasing prior to leaving. He now worked for a NYC based Consumer Packaged Goods wholesaler.

Kody has learned a lot of important principles over the years such as the importance of asking questions to get ahead in your learning and your career, or the power of that old phrase “it’s not what you know, it’s who you know”.
