EDX has been one of my favourite DJs/Producers for as long as I can remember. This might sound a bit strange but I’m not exactly sure why he’s been a favourite. I think it’s because he’s not the biggest name, the flashiest artist, the biggest selling DJ or the most outspoken. I admire that he just does his job in the background and excels at it. His sound is unique. It covers so many genres it's tough to pin down just one. It's a solid helping of deep house, progressive, proper house, chill, and vocal house music. Although most of his music is around 128bpm he still manages to take it to deep, funky, moving, nostalgic, and sometimes dark places. He has a signature but understated bass line that somehow alternates between getting you moving and taking you to a peaceful place – and sometimes doing both. In this Essential EDX mix I’ve included my favourite EDX tracks but more importantly my favourite EDX remixes because that’s where his best work is. I really wanted this episode to reflect the true nature of Spring: hope, awakening, energy, a promise of summer adventures to come, longer days, finally feeling the heat of the sun again after a long winter, anticipation and a re-birth. Welcome to the eagerly anticipated Volume 4 of DLite’s Deep Cuts! For this episode we go back to the origins of the Deep House sound. We go back to the 80’s and 90’s to get a taste of the ever present influences of soul, funk and jazz music. Of course the awesome bass lines remain, and the melodies bring a smooth and stylish vibe to this amazing genre.
