Alex Cunningham served on Stockton on Tees Borough Council from 1999, entering Parliament at the 2010 general election. He was appointed Shadow Minister for Justice, responsible for courts and sentencing, in April 2020. A journalist by profession, he worked in newspapers and radio before a career in communications and public relations, finishing as Head of Communications for Transco, the gas pipeline company. In 2003 he set up his own public relations and web design business.
