There are not many podcasts I can listen to, especially on design and creativity. The Creative Rising is incredibly inspiring, well produced, with great content.

As a creative myself, listening to these stories helps me in my own career as well as drives me forward. I love hearing from fellow creatives! What they do, how they overcome obstacles, and more. I also enjoy Blake’s voice and presence! 🙌

The Content/Format: 1 on 1 interview with a top level graphic designer, creative manager, branding expert, author, speaker, or other type of artist. You typically hear about their personal background, what influenced them, how they arrived where they are, etc. Often the dialog centers around a specific project or aspect of their practice. I find the content applies to a lot of marketing roles due to the deeper philosophical nature of many of the interviews. I always learn something. Theme: Courage. Defined as "rejecting indifference in ourselves and others". One question always asks the interviewee to react to that definition. Impressions: The Host, Blake Howard of Matchstic, is a top designer and branding expert in his own right, but he is focused on the interviewee, sharing personal details only as it validates or illustrates the interviewee's POV. It feels very authentic and you often feel inspired or encouraged by the end of the episode.

Love this Podcast and Blake does an amazing job! I love hearing the stories courage from creatives - personal side as well as leadership. As an owner/partner of a small creative shop, Rethink Creative, I learn so much from these podcasts about how to run a business, a team and how to build a healthy culture - as a leader - as well as a manager. I’m actually very very to the design world, however, creativity has always been a spark burning in me. The creative rising has been a resource that has help keep my spark alive. I think it’s one of the most helpful podcast for creatives to listen to and grow from. Thanks for inspiring me and helping me realize I can actually do this!

I’m not a creative. In fact, I work in the least creative workforce I could imagine - the federal government. That said, listening to Blake and his guests provide a spark that maybe...just maybe...I can influence creativity and break the mold in my little corner of the cubicle world. Inspiring, relatable, and dares me to make a difference. Definitely recommend you give it a listen and find where the discussions intersect with your work.

Great content and great podcast guests...Blake keeps it interesting with different topics for each podcast that tie back to the creative field in some way. I like that the talks aren’t just about that guest but a greater subject all listeners can learn from and relate to. Plus it’s cool to hear lots of local Atlanta talent being featured!

This very well-produced podcast puts the spotlight on people who make life cool because they are artistic, inspired, influential, driven, and so much more. Every episode contains gems of wisdom and experience to act up while also being very real about how difficult the journey is. It’s worth it in the end, of course, and every episode has a unique reason and answer as to why.

I am not in a traditional creative field, but my job requires me to think creatively every day. Listening to this podcast has been thoroughly enjoyable, has introduced me to lots of creative people I would otherwise not have known, and continues to provide me with valuable wisdom.

Been a big fan of this series since I heard about it from my professor. Love how they keep the topics and language accessible for designers & not-designers at any stage in their careers!

As a college student planning on pursuing a career in design, this podcast is just what I needed. Each episode is inspiring and eye-opening, and helps me understand the industry from an insider’s POV.

I started listening on the episode talking about company culture, then got hooked on the one with Bethaney Wilkinson of the Diversity Gap. This show is about creatives and creative work, but Blake dives deeply into so much more than just that! I truly believe that creatives will change the world, and Blake gets into so many of the ways, big and small that it is already happening.

Listening to this podcast has helped me grow my biz and mindset! I am forever grateful!

Blake and his network of creative peeps are so impressive! When I’m listening, I’m like- I feel like I should be paying for this kind of wisdom. Also: good news is- you don’t have to be an Uber creative to enjoy this podcast- I am moderately creative at best and I love how applicable it is. Some of my favorites are Kyle Brooks and Dr. Jerome Lubbe- these two episodes couldn’t be any more different- and that’s one of the best parts of this podcast. If you commute to work, own an adobe program, manage people, have ideas, or any combination of the above you will love this podcast! Sidenote- a lotta good Atlanta people and references- which is always a bonus. Enjoy!

Although I don't work in the creative industry, I find the Creative Rising to be refreshing, entertaining and engaging. I love the business perspective that each interviewee has brought to the surface. Blake does a great job of allowing the podcast to remain free form as well as swiftly intertwining themes from one podcast to the next. It’s clear there is careful intention given to the overall curation. Great listen for creatives and non-creatives alike!

I’m not a big podcast listener — I often get impatient with the pace of conversation, or all the intros and small talk. But the first episode of The Creative Rising I listened to, “Finding and Sustaining Your Style” w/ Brian Steely, caught and held my attention right away. Blake Howard’s hosting and interviewing is energetic and sharp. I laughed aloud several times at his and Brian’s bits back and forth. I think truth about that kind of hard work — drawing a line, protecting and taking care of yourself, fighting imposter syndrome — is really valuable for artists to be sharing on a platform like this podcast.

I never have been a big podcast listener. I used to listen to a bunch of AM radio talk shows- some talked about health and some talked about the book of Revelations. I used to listen to a preacher from Texas with two first names. I listened to most of the Creative Rising podcasts. All were good but several were really great. They spoke to me and somethings I have been dealing with. A few times I was left feeling a bit intimidated. A few times I was laughing and a few more I was feeling like I was on the right track. If you want to dig deeper into creative thinkers minds and thoughts then this podcast would do you good. Do you good. Wish you could. Carve some wood. Sho Billy Bud.

This podcast has been such a help for me personally and professionally. I consider myself a creative person working in a field and on a team where creativity is undervalued and misunderstood. It’s so refreshing to hear about and learn from others’ wins, setbacks and seemingly random turns that in hindsight don’t seem so random. I’ve both enjoyed and benefited from this podcast and recommend it to anyone who is even mildly connected to a creative field (and let’s face it...that’s basically everyone.)
