June 30 is observed as International Asteroid Day. Asteroids are minor planets which can neither be classified either as a planet or as a comet. International Asteroid Day aims to raise public awareness about the asteroid impact hazard and the crisis communication actions to be taken by public at the global level in case of a Near Earth Object (NEO) threat.
