This is a look into the actual meaning of these terms from the dictionary (as neither is defined in statute) and clearing up the confusion in the law enforcement profession.

Law Enforcement has borrowed their language from the military, understandably since they were literally born from the military (episode 1 - Warrior Ethos).  However, as a profession, we need to adopt the appropriate language which better fits our mission, which is very different from the mission of the military.
