Episode 1308. Motivational Monday, if your idea of motivation is a pancake demolition, a kamikaze on the railroad, and Florida talk radio threatening to call the university cops because a caller said the quiet part out loud.
The old DPS headquarters on the Jackson skyline is gone. Creston Berch spent half his childhood in that building while his grandmother worked implied consent. His mom spent the ’80s and ’90s warning that the New Madrid fault could drop it like a stack of pancakes. Sunday morning at 8, the demolition crew did it for them. Neat pile. No Building 7 theories required.
College football was the other weird. Clay went 12-8 against the spread and the total. Grok went 14-6 and finally took the season lead fight to two games. Season still sits Clay 82-37, Grok 76-43. The killers were Mississippi State and Missouri-Florida, plus a clean sweep of missed overs. Clay still will not pick against Ole Miss or State for money. Emotion is undefeated.
A caller on Florida sports talk (Steve Russell, WRUF) decided Ole Miss’s quarterback had a bad day because he “ain’t been getting any.” Host lost it and said the call would be referred to university police. That is not how the FCC works, and it is not how a dump button works. Which sent the show down the Harvey Updyke road: the Auburn fan who called Paul Finebaum, admitted he poisoned the Toomer’s Corner oaks with Spike 80DF, became a sidewalk-fan folk hero, named a kid Bear, and went to prison. Thirty for 30 and all.
Local FAFO of the weekend belongs to Ronnie Percy Holmes, 22, of Florida. Saturday morning in Star he drove a red Chevy SUV with Florida plates the wrong way on US 49, turned onto Dixie Road, parked on the railroad tracks near the Airgas facility, then drove down the tracks toward a freight train. Rankin 911 got the railroad to stop the train about 200 yards out. Holmes then walked to Dixie Road and tried to take a passing vehicle. The driver owns and operates a Flowood gun store and firearms training facility. Truck was wrapped like a rolling billboard for the shop. He still picked that one. Citizen held him at gunpoint until deputies arrived. No accident. Straight to UMMC for a mental eval, not Rankin jail. Charges: attempted carjacking and obstructing a railway. Mississippi Office of Homeland Security and the FBI Jackson office were notified because somebody intentionally blocked a rail line. Sheriff Bryan Bailey credited dispatch, deputies, and the citizen with stopping what could have been a body count. Four suicide attempts in about half an hour, and the one vehicle he chose had a man in it who was armed and trained. Clay’s read: undiagnosed mental health in the urban community gets treated like a character flaw instead of a medical problem, which is why the stats the virtue-signal videos love are garbage.
Also in the pile: a 15-year-old Brandon sophomore (Hinds extension, auto mechanic track) who showed up with his grandfather and detailed both vehicles for $130 a pop and earned it. Only flaw was the Alabama fandom, which he exercised in the driveway while State got worked. Creston on 33 years of not having to pull the trigger, including a Clinton woman walking town with a gun they could have shot and didn’t. The Mount Road man who thought he was Jesus, robe and cross, and put a .22 into a car full of kids messing with him. Flesh wound. Bourbon pick of the week is getting a real shelf at 042 Wine and Spirits in Brandon. Creston is hunting a Doc Holliday 10th Anniversary. Clay is hunting guitars, basses, and amps at fair Reverb money. Text the show or [email protected] if something is collecting dust.
Road segment after a New Orleans good Samaritan, Kishina Daniels, 31, stopped on I-10 to pull a neighbor from a flipped car and was killed when another driver hit the stopped traffic and shoved a car into the helpers. Creston’s counter: in 33 years he never unbuckled a dead body. Seat-belt lottery stories from cops are how you manufacture the next idiot.
