Richie Hawley is a celebrated clarinetist and educator whose career spans performance, recording, and teaching at the highest level. He served for 17 years as principal clarinetist of the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, appearing on more than 60 recordings and earning recognition for his "velvety tone and technical prowess."

Since 2011, Mr. Hawley has been the Professor of Clarinet at  Rice University's Shepherd School of Music and a faculty teaching artist at the Music Academy of the West, mentoring students who now hold positions in major orchestras worldwide.

As a D'Addario artist, Mr. Hawley collaborates with the D'Addario design team to help produce exceptional reeds and mouthpieces. He is also a Buffet Artist performing exclusively on Tosca Clarinets. In 2022, he expanded his impact on clarinet products by working with Brian Corbin to develop the R1 and R2 clarinet barrels.

You can hear the Hanick- Hawley piano/clarinet duo perform American composer masterworks for clarinet  on their recent release “A Gentle Notion.”
