Today we continue our series, The Final Alignment Of The Nations. Previously we reviewed Israel’s history beginning with Abraham up through Israel’s modern history. Today we review God’s sovereign plan for Israel, past present and future. Scripture testifies that Israel does indeed have a future and that events over the last 100 years are fulfillment’s of Biblical prophecy. For me, Israel provides clear and sure evidence of God’s existence and inerrancy of his Word.Upon Israel’s exodus from Egypt the Israelites spent 13 months at Mount Sinai, receiving the Sinai Covenant, the Torah, plans for the Mishkan or tabernacle, and many other instructions and laws. However, Israel’s lack of faith resulted in their wandering in the wilderness for 40 years. Afterwards, with a new generation, God brought them near to Jericho, East of the Jordan. Before crossing the Jordan and beginning the conquest of the land, Moses carefully detailed what would happen if Israel was obedient and if they were disobedient to God.Deuteronomy … 13 “The LORD will make you the head and not the tail, and you only will be above, and you will not be underneath, if you listen to the commandments of the LORD your God, which I charge you today, to observe them carefully,… 15 “But it shall come about, if you do not obey the LORD your God, to observe to do all His commandments and His statutes with which I charge you today, that all these curses will come upon you and overtake you:… 37 “You shall become a horror, a proverb, and a taunt among all the people where the LORD drives you.… 63 “It shall come about that as the LORD delighted over you to prosper you, and multiply you, so the LORD will delight over you to make you perish and destroy you; and you will be torn from the land where you are entering to possess it. 64 “Moreover, the LORD will scatter you among all peoples, from one end of the earth to the other end of the earth; and there you shall serve other gods, wood and stone, which you or your fathers have not known.Unfortunately, Israel fulfilled the words of Moses. Israel crossed the Jordan around 1377 BC and 396 years later the northern 10 tribes were dispersed by Assyria. God’s word is true, and although it took 396 years of disobedience God fulfilled his promise. God scattered the Jews among the nations. Then in 525 BC the first group of the southern tribes were deported to Egypt and by 506 BC Judah falls and the temple is destroyed, 871 years after the declaration of Moses. God is longsuffering but his words will be fulfilled.Ezekiel also refers to the prophetic words issued in the wilderness:Ezekiel 23 “Also I swore to them in the wilderness that I would scatter them among the nations and disperse them among the lands,24 because they had not observed My ordinances, but had rejected My statutes and had profaned My sabbaths, and their eyes were on the idols of their fathers. All these things came to pass and Israel was scattered, however, God promises to change their hearts. They will become obedient and live in the land.Deuteronomy 30:1 “So it shall be when all of these things have come upon you, the blessing and the curse which I have set before you, and you call them to mind in all nations where the LORD your God has banished you,2 and you return to the LORD your God and obey Him with all your heart and soul according to all that I command you today, you and your sons,3 then the LORD your God will restore you from captivity, and have compassion on you, and will gather you again from all the peoples where the LORD your God has scattered you.… 6 “Moreover the LORD your God will circumcise your heart and the heart of your descendants, to love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul, so that you may live.We are in the midst of this prophetic fulfillment. As we examined in our historical review God has been bringing back the Jews to Israel. In 2013 Israel became the largest population center of Jews with over six million, out pacing the US. Their hearts though have yet to be circumcised. There are many passages that speak of Israel’s return to the land, too many to list them all but here are a few:Jeremiah 6 if you do not oppress the alien, the orphan, or the widow, and do not shed innocent blood in this place, nor walk after other gods to your own ruin,7 then I will let you dwell in this place, in the land that I gave to your fathers forever and ever.Jeremiah 25:5 saying, ‘Turn now everyone from his evil way and from the evil of your deeds, and dwell on the land which the LORD has given to you and your forefathers forever and ever; The phrase Le-min olam ve-ad olam is normally used to describe God, but is also used twice, as we have just read, to describe Israel’s possession of the land. This tells there is a time to come in which Israel’s possession of the land will not be interrupted.Isaiah 19 “No longer will you have the sun for light by day, Nor for brightness will the moon give you light; But you will have the LORD for an everlasting light, And your God for your glory.20 “Your sun will no longer set, Nor will your moon wane; For you will have the LORD for an everlasting light, And the days of your mourning will be over.21 “Then all your people will be righteous; They will possess the land forever, The branch of My planting, The work of My hands, That I may be glorified.22 “The smallest one will become a clan, And the least one a mighty nation. I, the LORD, will hasten it in its time.”Jeremiah 15 but, ‘As the LORD lives, who brought up the sons of Israel from the land of the north and from all the countries where He had banished them.’ For I will restore them to their own land which I gave to their fathers.Jeremiah 23:6 “In His days Judah will be saved, And Israel will dwell securely; And this is His name by which He will be called, ‘The LORD our righteousness.’Jeremiah 24:6 ‘For I will set My eyes on them for good, and I will bring them again to this land; and I will build them up and not overthrow them, and I will plant them and not pluck them up.Jeremiah 30:18 “Thus says the LORD, ‘Behold, I will restore the fortunes of the tents of Jacob And have compassion on his dwelling places; And the city will be rebuilt on its ruin, And the palace will stand on its rightful place.Jeremiah 37 “Behold, I will gather them out of all the lands to which I have driven them in My anger, in My wrath and in great indignation; and I will bring them back to this place and make them dwell in safety.38 “They shall be My people, and I will be their God;39 and I will give them one heart and one way, that they may fear Me always, for their own good and for the good of their children after them.40 “I will make an everlasting covenant with them that I will not turn away from them, to do them good; and I will put the fear of Me in their hearts so that they will not turn away from Me.41 “I will rejoice over them to do them good and will faithfully plant them in this land with all My heart and with all My soul.42 “For thus says the LORD, ‘Just as I brought all this great disaster on this people, so I am going to bring on them all the good that I am promising them.Ezekiel 28:25 ‘Thus says the Lord GOD, “When I gather the house of Israel from the peoples among whom they are scattered, and will manifest My holiness in them in the sight of the nations, then they will live in their land which I gave to My servant Jacob.26 “They will live in it securely; and they will build houses, plant vineyards and live securely when I execute judgments upon all who scorn them round about them. Then they will know that I am the LORD their God.Ezekiel 12 “As a shepherd cares for his herd in the day when he is among his scattered sheep, so I will care for My sheep and will deliver them from all the places to which they were scattered on a cloudy and gloomy day.13 “I will bring them out from the peoples and gather them from the countries and bring them to their own land; and I will feed them on the mountains of Israel, by the streams, and in all the inhabited places of the land.14 “I will feed them in a good pasture, and their grazing ground will be on the mountain heights of Israel. There they will lie down on good grazing ground and feed in rich pasture on the mountains of Israel.15 “I will feed My flock and I will lead them to rest,” declares the Lord GOD.16 “I will seek the lost, bring back the scattered, bind up the broken and strengthen the sick; but the fat and the strong I will destroy. I will feed them with judgment.17 “As for you, My flock, thus says the Lord GOD, ‘Behold, I will judge between one sheep and another, between the rams and the male goats.Ezekiel 37:21 “Say to them, ‘Thus says the Lord GOD, “Behold, I will take the sons of Israel from among the nations where they have gone, and I will gather them from every side and bring them into their own land;22 and I will make them one nation in the land, on the mountains of Israel; and one king will be king for all of them; and they will no longer be two nations and no longer be divided into two kingdoms.23 “They will no longer defile themselves with their idols, or with their detestable things, or with any of their transgressions; but I will deliver them from all their dwelling places in which they have sinned, and will cleanse them. And they will be My people, and I will be their God.24 “My servant David will be king over them, and they will all have one shepherd; and they will walk in My ordinances and keep My statutes and observe them.25 “They will live on the land that I gave to Jacob My servant, in which your fathers lived; and they will live on it, they, and their sons and their sons’ sons, forever; and David My servant will be their prince forever.26 “I will make a covenant of peace with them; it will be an everlasting covenant with them. And I will place them and multiply them, and will set My sanctuary in their midst forever.27 “My dwelling place also will be with them; and I will be their God, and they will be My people.28 “And the nations will know that I am the LORD who sanctifies Israel, when My sanctuary is in their midst forever.”‘”Ezekiel 39:27 “When I bring them back from the peoples and gather them from the lands of their enemies, then I shall be sanctified through them in the sight of the many nations.28 “Then they will know that I am the LORD their God because I made them go into exile among the nations, and then gathered them again to their own land; and I will leave none of them there any longer.29 “I will not hide My face from them any longer, for I will have poured out My Spirit on the house of Israel,” declares the Lord GOD.Micah 2:12 “I will surely assemble all of you, Jacob, I will surely gather the remnant of Israel. I will put them together like sheep in the fold; Like a flock in the midst of its pasture They will be noisy with men.13 “The breaker goes up before them; They break out, pass through the gate and go out by it. So their king goes on before them, And the LORD at their head.”Micah 4: 6 “In that day,” declares the LORD, “I will assemble the lame And gather the outcasts, Even those whom I have afflicted.7 “I will make the lame a remnant And the outcasts a strong nation, And the LORD will reign over them in Mount Zion From now on and forever. The city of Jerusalem was also torn from Israel’s possession. In 70 AD, following 4 years of Jewish rebellion, Titus penetrated the walls of Jerusalem and burned the city and temple. Israel was dispossessed of Jerusalem just as Yeshua prophesied:Luke 21:20 “But when you see Jerusalem surrounded by armies, then recognize that her desolation is near.21 “Then those who are in Judea must flee to the mountains, and those who are in the midst of the city must leave, and those who are in the country must not enter the city;22 because these are days of vengeance, so that all things which are written will be fulfilled.23 “Woe to those who are pregnant and to those who are nursing babies in those days; for there will be great distress upon the land and wrath to this people;24 and they will fall by the edge of the sword, and will be led captive into all the nations; and Jerusalem will be trampled under foot by the Gentiles until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled. This was fulfilled by Rome in 70 AD, but this was not to be permanent, only until “the times of the gentiles are fulfilled”. In fact we are told that at the last of these last of days Jerusalem will be possessed by Jews once again.Zechariah 2 For I will gather all the nations against Jerusalem to battle, and the city will be captured, the houses plundered, the women ravished and half of the city exiled, but the rest of the people will not be cut off from the city.3 Then the LORD will go forth and fight against those nations, as when He fights on a day of battle.4 In that day His feet will stand on the Mount of Olives, which is in front of Jerusalem on the east; and the Mount of Olives will be split in its middle from east to west by a very large valley, so that half of the mountain will move toward the north and the other half toward the south.Zechariah 13:8 “It will come about in all the land,” Declares the LORD, “That two parts in it will be cut off and perish; But the third will be left in it.9 “And I will bring the third part through the fire, Refine them as silver is refined, And test them as gold is tested. They will call on My name, And I will answer them; I will say, ‘They are My people,’ And they will say, ‘The LORD is my God.'”Israel was prophesied to possess the city once again, before the great and final battle of this age. True to God’s word this has happened – Israel is once again in possession of Jerusalem. On June 7, 1967, on the third day of the Six Day War, Israel gained control of Jerusalem from Jordan after fierce fighting. Israel’s decision to take control of the city was not a goal entering the war. In fact they begged Jordan not to enter the war. God, though, is in control, He caused Jordan to enter the war with the result of Israel resting control of Jerusalem. The last days will not be easy. In fact, we learn that Israel will suffer much in the last of the last days but a remnant will survive.Matthew 16 then those who are in Judea must flee to the mountains.17 “Whoever is on the housetop must not go down to get the things out that are in his house.18 “Whoever is in the field must not turn back to get his cloak.19 “But woe to those who are pregnant and to those who are nursing babies in those days!20 “But pray that your flight will not be in the winter, or on a Sabbath.21 “For then there will be a great tribulation, such as has not occurred since the beginning of the world until now, nor ever will.22 “Unless those days had been cut short, no life would have been saved; but for the sake of the elect those days will be cut short.Mark 15 “The one who is on the housetop must not go down, or go in to get anything out of his house;16 and the one who is in the field must not turn back to get his coat.17 “But woe to those who are pregnant and to those who are nursing babies in those days!18 “But pray that it may not happen in the winter.19 “For those days will be a time of tribulation such as has not occurred since the beginning of the creation which God created until now, and never will.20 “Unless the Lord had shortened those days, no life would have been saved; but for the sake of the elect, whom He chose, He shortened the days. This will occur midway through Daniel’s 70th week, a seven year period at the end of this age. The spirit of Antichrist will covenant with Israel a peace deal but break it midway through.Daniel 9:27 “And he will make a firm covenant with the many for one week, but in the middle of the week he will put a stop to sacrifice and grain offering; and on the wing of abominations will come one who makes desolate, even until a complete destruction, one that is decreed, is poured out on the one who makes desolate.”Yet to occur will be the institution of the sacrificial system. This will require either a rebuilt temple, a Mishkan, or perhaps simply an altar on the Temple Mount. The remnant will be divinely protected by God.Revelation 2 and she was with child; and she cried out, being in labor and in pain to give birth.… 6 Then the woman fled into the wilderness where she had a place prepared by God, so that there she would be nourished for one thousand two hundred and sixty days.… 12 “For this reason, rejoice, O heavens and you who dwell in them. Woe to the earth and the sea, because the devil has come down to you, having great wrath, knowing that he has only a short time.”13 And when the dragon saw that he was thrown down to the earth, he persecuted the woman who gave birth to the male child.14 But the two wings of the great eagle were given to the woman, so that she could fly into the wilderness to her place, where she was nourished for a time and times and half a time, from the presence of the serpent.15 And the serpent poured water like a river out of his mouth after the woman, so that he might cause her to be swept away with the flood.16 But the earth helped the woman, and the earth opened its mouth and drank up the river which the dragon poured out of his mouth.17 So the dragon was enraged with the woman, and went off to make war with the rest of her children, who keep the commandments of God and hold to the testimony of Jesus.Joel 31 “The sun will be turned into darkness And the moon into blood Before the great and awesome day of the LORD comes.32 “And it will come about that whoever calls on the name of the LORD Will be delivered; For on Mount Zion and in Jerusalem There will be those who escape, As the LORD has said, Even among the survivors whom the LORD calls. At the end of this age and beginning of the next God will fully enact his new covenant with Israel.Jeremiah 21:31 “Behold, days are coming,” declares the LORD, “when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah,32 not like the covenant which I made with their fathers in the day I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt, My covenant which they broke, although I was a husband to them,” declares the LORD.33 “But this is the covenant which I will make with the house of Israel after those days,” declares the LORD, “I will put My law within them and on their heart I will write it; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people.34 “They will not teach again, each man his neighbor and each man his brother, saying, ‘Know the LORD,’ for they will all know Me, from the least of them to the greatest of them,” declares the LORD, “for I will forgive their iniquity, and their sin I will remember no more.”Jeremiah 8 ‘I will cleanse them from all their iniquity by which they have sinned against Me, and I will pardon all their iniquities by which they have sinned against Me and by which they have transgressed against Me.Ezekiel 11:17 “Therefore say, ‘Thus says the Lord GOD, “I will gather you from the peoples and assemble you out of the countries among which you have been scattered, and I will give you the land of Israel.”‘18 “When they come there, they will remove all its detestable things and all its abominations from it.19 “And I will give them one heart, and put a new spirit within them. And I will take the heart of stone out of their flesh and give them a heart of flesh,20 that they may walk in My statutes and keep My ordinances and do them. Then they will be My people, and I shall be their God.Ezekiel 36:24 “For I will take you from the nations, gather you from all the lands and bring you into your own land.25 “Then I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you will be clean; I will cleanse you from all your filthiness and from all your idols.26 “Moreover, I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; and I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh.27 “I will put My Spirit within you and cause you to walk in My statutes, and you will be careful to observe My ordinances.28 “You will live in the land that I gave to your forefathers; so you will be My people, and I will be your God.Then, when we enter the millennial age Israel will at long last become the seat of global power, where David will be king and Yeshua Meshiach reigns.Hosea 3:4 For the sons of Israel will remain for many days without king or prince, without sacrifice or sacred pillar and without ephod or household idols.5 Afterward the sons of Israel will return and seek the LORD their God and David their king; and they will come trembling to the LORD and to His goodness in the last days. The millennial kingdom will be a time of peace, righteous judgement, and Israel as the seat of power.Isaiah 2 The Spirit of the LORD will rest on Him, The spirit of wisdom and understanding, The spirit of counsel and strength, The spirit of knowledge and the fear of the LORD.3 And He will delight in the fear of the LORD, And He will not judge by what His eyes see, Nor make a decision by what His ears hear;4 But with righteousness He will judge the poor, And decide with fairness for the afflicted of the earth; And He will strike the earth with the rod of His mouth, And with the breath of His lips He will slay the wicked.5 Also righteousness will be the belt about His loins, And faithfulness the belt about His waist.6 And the wolf will dwell with the lamb, And the leopard will lie down with the young goat, And the calf and the young lion and the fatling together; And a little boy will lead them.7 Also the cow and the bear will graze, Their young will lie down together, And the lion will eat straw like the ox.8 The nursing child will play by the hole of the cobra, And the weaned child will put his hand on the viper’s den.9 They will not hurt or destroy in all My holy mountain, For the earth will be full of the knowledge of the LORD As the waters cover the sea.Isaiah 23 “And it shall be from new moon to new moon And from sabbath to sabbath, All mankind will come to bow down before Me,” says the LORD.24 “Then they will go forth and look On the corpses of the men Who have transgressed against Me. For their worm will not die And their fire will not be quenched; And they will be an abhorrence to all mankind.”Joel 3:17 Then you will know that I am the LORD your God, Dwelling in Zion, My holy mountain. So Jerusalem will be holy, And strangers will pass through it no more.18 And in that day The mountains will drip with sweet wine, And the hills will flow with milk, And all the brooks of Judah will flow with water; And a spring will go out from the house of the LORD To water the valley of Shittim.19 Egypt will become a waste, And Edom will become a desolate wilderness, Because of the violence done to the sons of Judah, In whose land they have shed innocent blood.20 But Judah will be inhabited forever And Jerusalem for all generations.Zechariah 5 ‘And the streets of the city will be filled with boys and girls playing in its streets.’6 “Thus says the LORD of hosts, ‘If it is too difficult in the sight of the remnant of this people in those days, will it also be too difficult in My sight?’ declares the LORD of hosts.7 “Thus says the LORD of hosts, ‘Behold, I am going to save My people from the land of the east and from the land of the west;8 and I will bring them back and they will live in the midst of Jerusalem; and they shall be My people, and I will be their God in truth and righteousness.’Amos 9:11 “In that day I will raise up the fallen booth of David, And wall up its breaches; I will also raise up its ruins And rebuild it as in the days of old;12 That they may possess the remnant of Edom And all the nations who are called by My name,” Declares the LORD who does this.13 “Behold, days are coming,” declares the LORD, “When the plowman will overtake the reaper And the treader of grapes him who sows seed; When the mountains will drip sweet wine And all the hills will be dissolved.14 “Also I will restore the captivity of My people Israel, And they will rebuild the ruined cities and live in them; They will also plant vineyards and drink their wine, And make gardens and eat their fruit.15 “I will also plant them on their land, And they will not again be rooted out from their land Which I have given them,” Says the LORD your God.Zephaniah 20 “At that time I will bring you in, Even at the time when I gather you together; Indeed, I will give you renown and praise Among all the peoples of the earth, When I restore your fortunes before your eyes,” Says the LORD.Israel indeed does have a future in God’s divine plan and his plan will not be thwarted.
