Hello everyone! Welcome back to The Blank Project podcast. Today we have a very special guest. Ruby is a designer and the owner of Studio77. They create dreamy websites for feel-good businesses. Ruby and I had a chat about her childhood and teenage years as we usually do - but we also talked about going freelance and how was that journey for her and the learning curves from that experience (she shared many many tips) , we also talked about why money is still the elephant in the room and why is it important to know your worth especially when you are going freelance. "know your worth" is also her chosen slogan for the slogan tee. It was a “feel-good” chat that I am sure you will love it as much as we did. Let's dive in!

As our first guest of 2020, we would love you to meet Zena; a Nigeria-born UK-based filmmaker. She is the inspiration behind “Don’t trade your authenticity for approval” slogan tee. During our conversation, we talked about her first years in Nigeria and how was being an immigrant in the UK at only 11 with her mum and younger brother, why she dropped out from Law school and discovering her passion and talent in filmmaking. We also talked about all-things-queer and what are the misconceptions around the topic. We feel very lucky to have her here and we can’t wait for you to hear her story.

Today we had a 1-to-1 with Thâmara who is the inspiration behind "Education is my Passport" tee. Her message couldn’t be more aligned with her story and you will learn why. She comes from very humble beginnings but I love how that didn’t dictate her future. Education was definitely crucial to her successful story.
She told me about her early years of life in a remote and poor town in the north of Brazil and how her lifestyle was back then. We talked about her love for books and learning since she was little, how she learned English and French with very little resources and how to got into one of the best universities in Brazil - and now continuing her studies in France through a scholarship she got for 1 year in one of the top schools for political studies in the world. She didn’t have the money for visa or ticket but that wasn’t enough for her to give up. Her friends helped her with a crowdfunding campaign and more than 150 people contributed to make her dream come true.
We also talked about how she is facing the world as a young black women and the misconception that comes with that.
I hope you will enjoy this conversation as much as I do! Let's dive in :)
