Sports have always been a huge part of former University of Michigan lacrosse player Matt Trowbridge’s life. He grew up playing everything- soccer, baseball, football, hockey… you name it. But the moment he picked up a lacrosse stick, he automatically developed a passion for the game that will last a lifetime.
Matt talks about his decision to choose lacrosse over baseball, and his experience playing for a relatively new Division 1 lacrosse program at the University of Michigan. At Michigan, he played under two different coaches, picking up valuable skills from both. He developed lifelong friendships with his teammates, and worked hard to become the best goalie he could be. He made the tough decision after his senior year to forgo his final year of eligibility at Michigan. Instead, he took a leap of faith and went to grad school at Duke, helping to coach their lacrosse team. While this was slightly out of his comfort zone at first, it ended up being an extremely rewarding experience. Today, Matt works in Chicago as a tech consultant and volunteers for an organization that teaches lacrosse to underprivileged youth. While all athletes retire eventually, Matt reminds us that our sport can always be a part of who we are.
