As a three year captain on the University of Michigan track team who achieved All-American status as a sprinter/hurdler and had Olympic aspirations, one might think Roland Amarteifio wouldn't have time for much else outside of competing. However, despite being all-in for achieving his athletic goals, Roland's interests go far beyond the track. As a student athlete, he co-founded two organizations: the Five North Project which brought computers to students in Ghana, and Wolverines Against Racism to give student athletes the platform to talk about racism in America and initiate community outreach programs. When his athletic career was almost cut short due to COVID, he decided to return to school to get his Masters in Urban Planning, and led the men's track team to a second place finish at the Big Ten Championships. Roland discusses how he was able to find balance, pursue his passions, and transition to life after college sports through the help of his teammates, family and friends.
