#73 - Bottling Up Trouble - One Year On
26 minutes Posted Sep 24, 2025 at 12:15 am.
This episode feels extra special - it marks a whole year since I published Bottling Up Trouble. What started as a hesitant idea shared with my coach turned into an Amazon bestseller and a finalist for Business Book of the Year. Today I reflect on that journey, the imposter syndrome I had to push through, and why the book became such a personal mission. I also share some of the research and stories that shaped it, from hidden costs of absenteeism and presenteeism, to the ways alcohol quietly affects culture, leadership, and mental health at work. Most of all, this episode is about compassion, curiosity, and progress. Change is possible, and even small shifts in culture can ripple out in powerful ways. Here are the highlights: How my coach planted the seed for the book
Battling imposter syndrome while writing
Hidden costs: absenteeism, presenteeism, and burnout
The link between alcohol and mental health at work
Why leaders need to set the tone from the top
Simple culture shifts that build inclusion
A train encounter that reminded me why this matters
