Becoming a medical professional is a lot of work and requires a lot of training.  Not only do hopeful future doctors, dentists and optometrists need to complete medical schooling in their chosen profession, but they also have to take part in a residency program that tacks on a few additional years to their training before they can practice on their own.  At the VA Southern Nevada Healthcare System, we have a multitude of residency programs to help grow the future of medicine and it is estimated that 70% of physicians in America serve at least part of their residency in a VA facility. On this episode of The 9 Line, we speak with Dr. Eric Agulia, Residency Program Educator and Dr. Carlos Rodriguez, VASNHS Resident, about the ins and outs of choosing both residency programs and residents, the advantages of doing a residency with the VA, and how the VASNHS adapted their residency programs during the COVID pandemic.
