The Katherine River winds itself through 12 kilometres of gorges, some of which have walls rising to a height of 70 metres, and it is an outstanding place. The Katherine Gorge was formed about 23 million years ago. The Gorge consists of thirteen gorges, with rapids and falls, which follow the Katherine River, which begins in Kakadu.
