Ashley is a prison psychologist who works within the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR). She describes her journey toward working in mental health; a typical day in her life reckoning with an astronomical caseload; and her understanding of why it is so difficult for people in prison to access consistent and effective care.
