Navratri /Navaratri or Navarathri literally means nine nights in Sanskrit, nava meaning nine and ratri meaning night. During these nine nights and ten days, nine forms of Sakti are worshiped. During Navratri, Golu is an integral part of the festival . Sundal is an important dish prepared every day for neivedhyam (offering to God) and distributed to friends, relatives and all those who come to see the Golu.
