Facebook has to pay a record breaking $5 billion penalty to settle Federal Trade Commission charges over breaking a previous FTC order and deceiving users over privacy controls. Facebook also has to submit to new restrictions and a modified corporate structure that holds the platform accountable for its user privacy decisions. The SEC is also fining Facebook $100 million.
