With Thanksgiving on the horizon, David and Mama Sanchez discuss the timely topic of… family gatherings! David reveals to Mama Sanchez the difficulties he experienced with stuttering in the context of loud, tamale-filled family gatherings at the Sanchez house growing up, and they consider what advice they would have given their old selves if they could.
Back by popular demand, David interviews 12-year-old Bennie Storey on the issues people who stutter are facing this Thanksgiving with SPR’s second installment of “Advice From Kids.” Bennie offers advice on small talk, responding to unsolicited advice about stuttering, and father-in-laws.
Mother-daughter duo Audri & Alicia Gundersen join for the second half of the show to talk about their relationship, stuttering, and family gatherings. Audri shares how she openly shared her experiences with stuttering with her parents, along with things her mother continually did to make her feel comfortable when talking about stuttering.
The Gundersens help the Sanchezes finish out the show with a game of “Bad Jokes.” Aside from outing Audri’s father, Arnie, as the bad joke teller in their family, the Gundersens battle it out to make the other laugh with their corny jokes. Keeping with SPR tradition, the victor selects a family photo of their choice to embarrass the other on our Instagram account!

Audri Gundersen is a 23 year-old who stutters. She is living in Spokane Washington where she is working as an ABA therapist. She just graduated from the University of Washington with her bachelors of science in communication disorders. She hopes to one day become a speech therapist and help others who stutter like herself.
Alicia Gundersen is the mama to Audri and Abby, wife to Arnie, and feels so privileged to get the honor of carrying both those titles. Because of them Alicia is better and so is this world.
