One of the most common questions we get at P3 is “do I need a referral before I see you?” Direct access to physical therapy services is now available in every state, BUT with specific provisions depending on the state. This was a huge political accomplishment in the world of physical therapy as it allows patients access to services without jumping through the crazy hoops of the healthcare system. In this podcast we discuss the research behind choosing physical therapy BEFORE going the traditional route of (family doc →  imaging/medication → rest → surgeon → injection/surgery → maybe PT) for muscle, tendon, ligament, bone, nerve or joint pain. We discuss the research behind MAJOR cost savings for the patient, improved recovery and outcomes, and why seeing the right provider early in the process can make all the difference. Not to mention having conservative treatment saves injections, painkillers and surgery as a LAST RESORT! This podcast episode is all about why choosing physical therapy for your orthopedic problem should be your first option! We promise you won’t be disappointed!
