In this episode I talk about how Big Tech salaries have gone through the roof in recent years, and WHY it's been happening.  And how it's going to continue, because the world has run out of engineers.

I give some actual numbers for different levels, based on lots of conversations with people in the industry, including engineers and recruiters.

The numbers seem very high to many of the people who heard this talk on YouTube, so I'll throw in some caveats here:

  •  This is for Big Tech:  Really big companies like Amazon, Netflix, Google, Microsoft and so on.
  • The numbers are for people in the highest-paid parts of the US, which basically means California Bay Area, Seattle, and NYC.
  • The numbers are more applicable for people who have switched jobs recently, since switching jobs tends to come with a compensation bump.
  • The numbers bake in a 4-year vesting period, over which it's assumed that your stock value will continue to go up the way the FANG stocks have gone up in the past 4-5 years.
  • The numbers are total comp, meaning salary + bonuses + stock + benefits + perks.

These numbers will be backed up by recruiters in a future episode, when I start bringing on guests.

Several people I know have already used these numbers to negotiate much higher compensation packages at their current companies.
