When Lori's son Ricky was very sick and dying in the hospital as an infant, she went to the chapel and prayed for him to live. She vowed to God that if God would heal her son then she would devote her life to helping children. In 2025 she began spelling with Ricky, and now she started helping other families get their kids spelling. All of them became "open" right away, as opposed to waiting for months or even years with others. The difference is, she learned that many of them can not feel their arms. So by giving them some support under their elbow, it helps them feel their arms and helps them to find the board to spell. She does this for free because she feels she is fulfilling her vow she made to God.
