Dr. Torres leads the Sensory Motor Integration Lab at Rutgers University. Originally starting with robotics studying motor control in athletes, she moved on to working with autistic individuals studying their execution of movement, vestibular and proprioception. She says most times they have an almost 2 second delay in sensory processing, but we need to presume competence and give them time to perform a task. She has monitored their dysregulation and found that most of the time they are in fight or flight mode and have symptoms of someone with chronic pain.
