Since Hank Aaron passed away, I have found myself reflecting often about why he was so important to me.
He was retired from baseball before I was even born, so I never got the privilege to see him play.
But I can read.
The mere fact that he got better than three thousand pieces of mail every day - most of them filled with hate in racist invective - and never grew bitter and angry - that speaks to a man's character more than anything.
