When the Stanley Hotel opened in 1909, it was a playground for the rich, with its high end electric lights, a grand ballroom, and an unbeatable view of the Rockies. By 1974, though, the magic had worn off. That is, until author Stephen King spent one night in the hotel and woke up with the idea for The Shining. Afterward, people called it one of the most haunted locations in America. Not because of King’s novel, but because of the numerous ghost sightings that have happened there over the decades.
