Today I’m talking to the amazing Laura Mae Lindo, MPP for Kitchener Center, Member of the Ontario NDP party, a respected activist and educator who holds both a Masters and PhD in Education, the Official Opposition Critic for Anti-Racism and Colleges and University, and mama of 3.

I have to admit, I was really nervous for this interview and you may be able to hear it in my voice at the beginning but Laura Mae was so down to earth and easy to talk to that I quickly felt like I was talking to an old friend. And that’s one of the reasons you are going to love this interview so much — she is such a real and honest person, which is not what you would typically expect from a politician.

We talk about:

- Mothering during a pandemic

- Being a single mother

- Why she places connection with her children above all else, even if this means listening to her gut instead of doing what everyone else is doing.

- How being a black mother has shaped her motherhood experience

- Why we all need to be compassionate with ourselves as mamas, especially during this pandemic.

- Racism within the school system in Waterloo Region

- What changes are on the horizon and what ALL parents need to do to advocate for racially just schools.

- The role of an MPP

- How she manages with everything she has on her plate

This is an interesting, eye-opening, and heartwarming conversation and I admire and respect Laura Mae even more after getting to know her better.
