With May just about to come to a close, that can only mean the gang gets together once again to try and talk about Broforce. Of course this also mean too much alcohol gets consumed and only shenanigans and rambling happens by the end. Also, who knew Ross had such a love for Margaritas? This is like some weird new development. With Broforce now behind us, we set our eyes on Party Hard. You know, cuz we are so going to party….really damned hard!

After a forced break due to internet issues last week, we are back once again to babble on about this and that. We start out with a lovely discussion about game reviews and why it’s okay to have differing opinions. Sadly, I kill that conversation, which was pretty solid. Maybe we should come back to that in a future episode? Anyway, we then transition to talk about the DOOM franchise. The stroll down memory lane is strong. Heck, now I want to play Brutal DOOM again! I MUST RESIST!

We’ve talked a bit about virtual reality and our hesitations with it. In fact, both Keri and I have been pretty much on the Nope Train for it. However, Keri recently got a change to try out VR for the first time and her opinions on it have changed. While she is a believer in the VR hype now, there was a bit of unexpected side effects during her trial with it. Me, I’ll just keep holding out until the tech improves, becomes cheaper, and the games are more than just glorified tech demos. One thing is for sure, it does not seem like virtual reality is going away anytime soon. You know…like the non-hype that was motion controls or 3D gaming.

After a month of playing Tom Clancy’s The Division, the gang gets together to chat about their experiences. It wouldn’t be a good gathering if they didn’t bring their favorite adult beverages. As the inebriation settles in, we talk about the story, the good, the bad, and the ugly of this game. It really is a fun game, and we all appear to enjoy it. However, it would be nice if Ubisoft (otherwise known as Oopsiesoft) fixed the game so the Dark Zone was a bit more welcoming to players who are not cheesing this game.

Nintendo announced that the Nintendo NX is really a thing that is coming in 2017. They also confirmed that the next entry in the Zelda series will be coming to both the NX and the WiiU. Yet, we know nothing of what this new system is. Not a glimpse of what it looks like. Not a hint of specs or what it’s capable of. Not even a murmur of what kind of funky control scheme this new system will surely employ. Keri and I are totes confused as to what strategy Nintendo is trying to go with on this. I mean, are they really looking to fail before they even get this thing into retail stores?

The rumor mill is buzzing with talk of what might just be a PlayStation 4 refresh in the midst. If these rumors are true, it means the PlayStation 4 will get a hardware upgrade and a new mode to help games run better and nicer. Keri and I discuss what the updates could mean for gamers and developers. Interesting times are certainly ahead of us now.

After a few weeks of being busy with travel and life, we are finally able to sit down together and record a podcast. Keri and I chat about the new hotness in video games known as multiplayer focused games. With games like LawBreakers, Battleborn, and Overwatch all on the horizon, these all have a focus on putting you online in some form of a multiplayer setting. We even look at how these games are taking genres such as MOBA or looter-shooter, mixing them up, and making some unique experiences for players to enjoy. Needless to say, it’s good to be a gamer.
Oh, yeah. We are so rusty after our little break that SOMEONE forgets to turn off Steam. So we have a small glitch in the system where we are disconnected from one another.

Microsoft recently announced that it is allowing developers to enable cross-platform operability in their games. This means that people on Xbox One will soon be able to play certain games online with their friends on PC. There is even hope that this will also mean that we might soon see Xbox One players teaming up with PS4 players in various games. This is a feature we are already starting to see trickle into some current games. For example, Street Fighter V allows PS4 players to battle it out with PC players. Final Fantasy XIV also includes this nicety. Keri and I discuss the potential greatness of cross-platform play while also looking into some of the pitfalls that this feature could bring to gamers.

This week brought the news that Microsoft was cancelling Fable Legends. While those in my circle of friends really didn’t care about the cancellation of this game, it was the following rumor that got us a bit teary eyed. From what the rumor mill is all but certain of, Microsoft is planning to shutdown Lionhead Studios. This studio might not pump out games as fast as say EA or Ubisoft, they were part of what got Microsoft off the ground with Fable on the original Xbox. We never like to see rumors, or confirmations, that a studio is getting shutdown. Sadly, that seems to be the way of the industry lately. If this does become true, and it’s looking that way, we hope all those affected can find new employment quickly and effortlessly.

There are just some video game genres that we will just turn and run away from. Sometimes, it’s a dumb gaming mechanic that drives us nuts. What is interesting is that something that totally drives one person nuts, another person loves. This is what makes video games so great. They appeal to a broad spectrum of interests. Time to find out what drives Keri to nope out of certain games and what makes me cringe in disgust.
