Christ rebukes the church in Laodicea because they are neither cold nor hot, meaning that they neither bring refreshment (cold) nor healing (hot) to the thirsty and diseased world around them. They are blind to their own sin, but Jesus extends grace by asking them to allow him to return to their assembly!
