Can nuclear fusion reactors save the world? The process is called nuclear fusion. Nuclear fusion works by forcing atoms together in order to release energy. In some ways fusion has all the advantages of nuclear fission without any of the drawbacks like risk of meltdown or long-lived radioactive waste. Scientists believe that if fusion technology can be successfully harnessed as a human energy source, it could help save the world from future environmental catastrophe. Proponents of nuclear fusion believe it will end the world's dependence on fossil fuels once and forever.
