The Atlanteans then built a bridge to the north from the mountains, creating a route to the rest of the island. They dug a large canal into the sea, and beside the bridge, made a cave into a ring of rock so that ships could pass into the city around the mountains; they made a pier out of the stone wall of the ditch.
