In Episode three of The Tenant of Wildfell Hall, I narrate a passage from Chapter VIII, The Prelude.
As gossip and suspicion circulate beneath the surface of a village tea gathering, Gilbert Markham finds himself torn between conviction and doubt, retreating at last into the solitude of the evening garden. The episode includes a short literary reflection of the tension between social conversation and inner silence, and on the quiet spaces where we seek refuge from the noise of the world.
