Welcome to Rock Solid Journals, where we embark on a daily journey through devotionals. I'm Dana Morrison, and I'm thrilled to kick off the new year by delving into the book of Philippians. Ideally, we'll start this exploration on January 1st. While I'm recording this early for a timely post on the first day, I'll continue to share my daily insights as we sync up. As we step into the new year, I encourage you to embrace God's work, immerse yourself in scripture, prayer, and the teachings of Christ. Let these elements overflow into your life throughout the year. Often, we view January 1st as a reset, initiating new habits that may fade with time. Instead, I challenge you to deepen your faith, drawing closer to the Lord, fostering a commitment that endures. Let's undertake this journey together as a community, supporting and encouraging one another. Rock Solid Journals is a product of my personal study of scripture, driven by a sense of divine inspiration. There's no magic involved; it simply prompts us to integrate scripture into our lives, aligning with its intended purpose. To join in, grab a journal from Walmart, fold its pages, create four columns, and embark on this transformative study. The left page, divided into columns, holds your chosen passage and maybe a date. The second column is for your interpretation in your own words. The third is for your prayers, and the fourth is dedicated to understanding what God is communicating to you. This simple yet powerful method aids in a personal connection with scripture. We'll focus on Philippians, aiming for Monday through Friday reflections, with weekends open for exploring other passages. This structure allows for a balanced scriptural intake. While I'm sharing my own insights, remember, this is a communal effort, and there's nothing extraordinary about me. We are all equal parts of the body of Christ, encouraging and uplifting one another. Philippians 1:1-2 may seem brief, but as we go through the four columns, you'll discover its depth. This letter, written by Paul and Timothy, is addressed to all the saints in Christ at Philippi, including overseers and deacons. They extend grace and peace from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. In my own words: "This letter, from Paul and Timothy, servants of Christ, is for followers of Christ in Philippi, including leaders. We greet you with the grace and peace bestowed upon us by our Lord." In the prayer column, take your time to express gratitude, seek understanding, and offer your thoughts to God. My prayer included thanks for the message, Paul and Timothy's obedience, and the ability to receive this letter as modern-day saints. I prayed for open hearts and minds to accept these words as if spoken to us today. As we explore what God is telling us, I shared three insights. Firstly, embracing Christ makes us fellow laborers with Paul and Timothy, timeless co-workers in God's kingdom. Secondly, the truth revealed to God's people is for the entire body, leaders and non-leaders alike. Lastly, greeting fellow believers with grace and peace reflects the divine unity we share in Christ. In the final column, I offered a summary prayer, asking God to shape my attitude toward brethren with grace and peace, revealing any discord sown by the enemy. I asked for correction and forgiveness where needed and entrusted the day, the study, and the new year to God's guidance. May your day be blessed as you embark on this transformative journey through scripture.
