Father Scott explores the connection between Paul Laurence Dunbar's poem 'We Wear the Mask' and Jesus' commissioning of the disciples in Matthew 9-10. Drawing from his own experience as a Black man in America, Scott unpacks how Jesus calls us to do the difficult work of showing radical love that defies social norms—even when we face persecution. This sermon challenges us to wear the mask God gives us: one of compassion, faith, and unwavering commitment to making God's kingdom come near through loving our neighbors as ourselves.
