A Conversation with Zach Norris, author of We Keep Us Safe, praised by Just Mercy's Bryan Stevenson with a Foreword from Van Jones. Zach is Executive Director of Ella Baker Center and Co-founder of Restore Oakland

"After 20 plus years working to bring humanity and healing to our criminal legal system, I developed a framework to help understand and transform the policies and practices that perpetuate intergenerational trauma and community suffering.
The premise of my book which launches FEBRUARY 4th, WE KEEP US SAFE: Building Secure, Just and Inclusive Communities is that we are safer together when we shift the conversation about public safety away from fear and punishment and toward growth and support systems for our families and communities. As we build public safety systems that recognize our connection to each other, we also give ourselves our best chance to rescue democracy.
2020 will be a pivotal point in the history of humanity and for the survival of our species. Will we come together to reject division and scapegoating and instead affirm our interdependency and humanity?  If we are to shift the direction of this country, we must present a compelling vision for how our communities can heal and thrive."
