Room: STG-9 Jeffrey McGuire Too many tech entrepreneurs still leave for the greener pastures of the United States when it comes to “going big”. What if there were a way for us to build a strong digital economy in Europe?
We can. Here’s the trick: The freedoms implicit in free and open source software (FOSS) licenses provide an even technology playing field upon which local SME digital service providers can measure their skills directly against the established international players – and win. With FOSS on our side we can leverage global tech communities while helping our European home regions and local economies.
In this talk I will show how the use of FOSS in governments and municipalities changed spending patterns and helped to keep millions in their local economies - be it the UK, Munich or even Gummersbach.
Let’s take their example into business and talk about how Free and Open Source Software can help us to keep our data, our money, our businesses, our ideas, and our talent close to home!Produced by Voice RepublicFor more podcasts visit http://voicerepublic.com
