Room: stage A
We've heard it over and over: encrypt All the Things. Alternately: encrypt All the Things if you can figure out how to do it!
Unfortunately, learning to use tools that help protect privacy and enable digital security can be really difficult. More importantly, privacy and digital security are about more than encryption or other technological tools. The behaviors and habits people develop around the use of technologies result from their unique circumstances, and what 'works' for one person might not be right, ethical, safe, or practical for another.
This talk will show how findings from human computer interaction, public health behavior change strategies, as well as insights gained from the experiences of human rights defenders with digital security, can inform a comprehensive approach to the adoption of privacy and security-enabling habits and behaviors.
