am on the 21st of October 1966, a colliery spoil tip above the Welsh village of Aberfan, collapsed and slid down the mountainside. It engulfed Pantglas Junior School and a row of nearby houses. 144 people were killed, 116 of them children, most between the ages of 7 and 10. The warning signs had been raised for years, and the inquiry that followed found the National Coal Board responsible for a disaster that never should have happened. Yet no one was prosecuted, and no one lost their job. On the 21st of October 2026, Aberfan marked 60 years since that morning, and we’re re-releasing this episode to mark the anniversary.
