This franchise set the bar for twenty-first-century blockbusters. Then, The Hobbit happened. The bloated sequel trilogy tried to shoehorn in themes and stories ignored by the originals (plus even more walking and that banging Misty Mountains song), and doubt was cast over the perfection of Middle-Earth. Peter Jackson's long journey ultimately shied away from the classism, xenophobia, and true nature of Sauron that would make it most relevant to today. Plus, a severe lack of Eagles scenes, gender-bending, and Tom Bombadil means, yeah...We gotta reboot the second holiest of all trilogies. &nbsp;
