Let's open our Bibles to Colossians 2 verse 16, my dear friends. In this verse, the Apostle Paul addresses a specific issue that was causing division and confusion among the believers in Colossae. He writes, "Therefore let no one pass judgment on you in questions of food and drink, or with regard to a festival or a new moon or a Sabbath."
In that time, church leaders following Old Testament law were making judgments and placing burdens on others based on external observances such as food and sabbaths.
Paul's message to the Colossian believers is one of freedom and liberation. He encourages them not to allow anyone to pass judgment on them in matters related to food, drink, festivals, new moons, or Sabbaths. He emphasizes that these regulations were a mere preparation for Christ.
However, it's important to note that Paul is not advocating lawlessness or disregarding the principles of holiness. He is simply emphasizing that the observance of these external practices should not be a basis for judgment or division among believers. The true measure of their faith and righteousness lies in their relationship with Christ and their love for one another.
Our faith is not defined by what we eat or drink, or by observing certain religious traditions. It is about our relationship with Christ and the transformation He brings to our hearts and lives.
May we walk in the freedom and grace that Christ has provided, focusing on Him as the source of our salvation and the center of our lives. And may our interactions with others be marked by love, acceptance, and unity, bringing glory to our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen!
