Every relationship - every friendship - serves a specific purpose in our lives. Even if the relationship doesn't turn out to be a lifetime relationship. Even when a relationship comes to an end – the end may hurt and you may be quick to believe that the relationship was a waste of your time because it ultimately came to end – but during the course of the relationship, that person served a purpose in your life. They met some need that you had. And during the time that they were in your life, their presence provided you with something of value. Something you needed. And that’s what the relationship was meant to do. You don’t have to regret the experiences because the relationship comes to an end. You can be grateful for what you provided for each other and for who you became as you grew through it.
