Real Madrid have released a second statement on Monday, denouncing the lack of action by the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) in the wake of abuse towards Vinicius Junior.
The Brazilian was targeted by Valencia fans over the weekend, and the football world has since rallied together in support, including FIFA President Gianni Infantino, President of Brazil, Lula Da Silva, Rio Ferdinand, Casemiro, and others.
The club confirmed they lodged a public prosecution case and have now hit back at the “surprising” statements from federation president, Luis Rubiales.
“Real Madrid CF would like to thank our player Vinicius Júnior for the numerous expressions of affection, solidarity and affection received from all over the world,” read the statement.
“Hateful and racist attacks must be eradicated from our society forever and this is how personalities from all walks of life and from different national and international institutions have spoken after what happened yesterday at the Mestalla stadium…
“We are surprised by the statements by the president of the Spanish Football Federation, Luis Rubiales, because being the head of Spanish football and the refereeing establishment, he has allowed that forceful action has not been taken, according to the protocols of FIFA, to avoid the situation that has been reached. The image of our football is seriously damaged and deteriorated in the eyes of the whole world.
