After the appalling killing of George Floyd by a Minnesota cop, protesters in the city of Bristol, England pulled down a statue of Edward Colston (1636–1721).  They then beat it with sticks and chucked it in the river.

Colston's statue was targeted by Black Lives Matter protesters because of his links to the slave trade.  Since the toppling, there have been calls for other statues to be brought down, including one of Winston Churchill.  But should we be judging ancient historic figures based on modern moral standards?
