Where you live is a social determinant of your health. In this episode, Mel and Keely describe how the geographical location and quality of your home directly impact your health. Although, what happens to your health when you are evicted from your home? We share the story of a beloved Black and Indigenous family in a North Portland neighborhood who faced the trauma of eviction, displacement, and racial discrimination during the pandemic. The Kinney family rallied support from the community and showed their resilience against all odds: false reporting, death threats, and police brutality. We give credit to the family's lived experience by reading two of the press releases from the Red House on Mississippi and relating their experience back to the impact on health.
